To the east of Winterthur and bordering on the canton Thurgau lies the municipality of Bertschikon. The rural environment, easy access to the main traffic routes, excellent regional road connections, as well as the proximity to Winterthur and Frauenfeld make the municipality an attractive place to live and a good environment for small enterprises. The political municipality and the former primary school municipality have been united since January 1, 2005. About 1,000 inhabitants share an area of 964 hectares in Bertschikon. This area includes the expressways A1 and A7 and the national highway S1. The latter used to be the main highway in Switzerland (the Route 66 of Switzerland) from Kreuzlingen TG (Thurgau) to Geneva.
