Illnau-Effretikon is located between Winterthur and Zurich, bordering onto the municipality of Winterthur. It benefits from the excellent road and rail connections to both Zurich and Winterthur.

Road and rail connections
Illnau-Effretikon has two railway stations (Effretikon and Illnau) with a high frequency of connections. There are several interurban trains (S-Bahn) going to Zurich and Winterthur every hour from Effretikon station. Trains to Zurich and Wetzikon in the south leave Illnau station every 30 minutes.
Effretikon has direct access to the national A1 motorway, which means Winterthur, Zurich and Zurich Airport are no more than 10 minutes away by car.
