The Winterthur region has a population of more than 180,000, of which just over 105,000 live in the city of Winterthur itself. This makes it the sixth-largest city in Switzerland. Winterthur is surrounded by a green belt with over 20 idyllically set rural municipalities, which add to the attraction of the Winterthur region as a place of residence. The city of Winterthur and its surroundings are renowned for their high quality of life, characterized by comparatively low costs of living, outstanding infrastructure and an ideal location. The range of educational institutions and leisure activities on offer is also hard to beat for a city the size of Winterthur.

The city of Winterthur is an independent economic center that also benefits, in terms of infrastructure and labor market, from the proximity to Zurich. The Winterthur region offers favorable tax rates for natural persons in comparison to other cities and cantons in Switzerland as well as to tax rates in other countries.
